It is hard to believe, but another year has passed. I just completed my third year of teaching. It never seizes to amaze me how quickly time passes. I so clearly remember the day of my interview. It was the summer of 2007. I had been married for 6 months, and I was trying to figure out what to do about a job. I knew I wanted to teach, but I didn't know if we could afford for me to enter a credential program. This would mean I would need to student teach and student teaching equals no paychecks. We decided I would start with substitute teaching. I went in for my interview where I was asked, "Why do you want to be a substitute teacher?". To this I relied with something along the lines of always wanting to be a teacher, but I was unsure of where teachers were being hired. She then told me that there actually were jobs in the district. The next thing I knew, I was in her bosses' office learning about how they were prepared to hire what's called and "intern teacher" (where I could get my credential while teaching). I was told to go ahead and fill out the application online as see what comes up. I went home that day and filled it out.

I later was told that I impressed the right people becasue everything just fell into place after that. I filled out the teaching application on a Thursday and on Friday I was hired as a full-time teacher. That Friday morning, at around 11:30, I received a call from my now boss asking if I could come in for an interview at 1:00. He apologized for the short notice and explained that he was leaving on vacation that day. I quickly showered, styled my hair, put on a cute belted button front shirt-dress that I made with black pumps and went on my way. I didn't even know what to expect. I didn't even have time to mentally prepare. After getting lost on the campus and having intense July sun glaring down on me, I finally found the administration building. At the end of the interview, I was offered the job on the spot; he told me he never does that, but that he was so impressed and confident. I am so glad he had so much faith in me. I accepted on the spot. I left that interview and immediately called Nathan to share the great news. The next step was enrolling in a credential program.

Everyday I feel so grateful and recognize the blessing my job is in my life. I have had the opportunity to meet wonderful people, and I have learned so much. It is so fulfilling when I realize my students have learned and grown up right before my eyes. Each year has brought new challenges, but those challenges pale in comparison to the fulfillment that comes with teaching.
