Hi, I'm Melody. Wife to Nathan, mom to Hudson and Jayde, teacher to many.

The Hospital Stay

We stayed in the hospital for one long night. I say long because I didn't sleep at all. By this point had been awake for 48 hours. All in all, enjoyed my hospital experience. After labor, I was transferred to the postpartum ward for recovery. The rooms were large and private which was nice. When we first got there Nathan looked around to find where he was expected to sleep and we had a moment of laughter when we saw the convertible chair pull out only to reveal a miniature sleeping space, a space clearly too small for a man of Nathan's stature.

Soon the nonstop flow and rotation of nurses began. I was brought pain killers every six hours, my blood pressure was taken round the clock, the lactation specialist came to check in on me periodically, Hudson was rolled away various times for routine check ups, etc.! When nighttime rolled around nothing changed. We laughed when they decided to do Hudson's hearing check at 3:00 am. I guess they don't expect you to sleep either.

Nathan needed to run home in the late afternoon to check on Sarah and Delilah since they had her alone for an extended amount of time, so my best friend Chloe came down to be with me while he ran home. She stayed with me until Nathan returned.

Nathan was great at the hospital. He knew I was sore and exhausted, so whenever Hudson cried he was up to hold him or bring him to me if he needed nursing. He changed all the diapers while at the hospital and was amazed by Hudson's first poops, the meconuim.
My brother came to visit the night I gave birth. As I told him my birth story, I watched as all the color drained from his face and how he had to sit down. He doesn't handle medical things very well.

The night I gave birth the hospital served Nathan and I a congratulatory dinner complete with sprinkling cider. That was the only meal the hospital brought for Nathan. While I was waited on hand and foot for every meal, Nathan had to go get take-out.

We decided to leave after one nights stay. We were discharged at 9:00pm on February 1st. For the most part the hospital stay was a good experience, but I was anxious to get home and sleep in my own bed, only I didn't sleep at all that night. More on that later.

  1. Cute little man you have there! That Is a shame that the nurses wouldn't let you sleep. I know the feeling of just wanting to sleep in your own bed. Enjoy you little man!!!!
